What sets Anokhi’s products apart from other hand block printed Indian cottons is the superior quality of their products and designs.

Hand block printing is an art form that has existed for at least 4,500 years and there is evidence to suggest that this form of textile decoration may be as old as the cultivation of the cotton plant.   It requires immense skill and patience.  Prints are carved into wooden blocks and then with great precision, each block is dipped in dye and placed on the fabric.  For each colour a new block is applied.  For every three meter ream of fabric, there can be 700 - 1000 impressions, making block printing by hand a slow and labour intensive process.  It is, however, capable of yielding highly artistic results, some of which are unobtainable by any other method.    The fabric is treated as an individual piece of art.  The most important aspect of this craft is ensuring that every print is even in colour and follows a continuous design.   Please note that due to the hand-made nature of the product, irregularities may occur.

Like most things made by hand, Anokhi products have a superior aesthetic.   Their use of vibrant colours and intricate designs blend contemporary with traditional, resulting in timeless, beautiful pieces.
